You and I remember Budapest very differently.

If you say that a woman wearing revealing clothes deserves to be sexually assaulted, you are saying that a woman’s body is inherently deserving of rape. That women are inherently deserving of rape. That women have to make sure their body is hidden in order not to deserve to be raped. That is misogyny in its purest form.

Not having heard the entire conversation, there’s no question NO-ONE deserves a violent act against them for whatever cause save self defense.    

However,  if I leave my car door open and a valuable package in plain view in a bad part of town, and it is stolen, is there not some liability on my part?

A package is not a human being and stealing is not rape. Stealing someone else’s property is wrong, but it is a material object and cannot be compared to the consequences of a rape.

I’ll raise you another what-if, since this is apparently how we’re getting points across: If a man walks down the street in a bad part of town and I shoot him, isn’t that his fault for not wearing a bulletproof vest?
