John King asks if the easing of roles for women in combat is a good thing. And Santorum answers with: “I want to create every opportunity for women to be able to serve this country . . . but I do have concerns about women in front-line combat. I think that could be a very compromising situation, where people naturally may do things that may not be in the interest of the mission because of other types of emotions that are involved. It already happens, of course, with the camaraderie of men in combat, but I think it would be even more unique if women were in combat,” he added. “And I think that’s not in the best interests of men, women or the mission.”

Oh, you know those ladies; flighty and panicky and emotional and all that.

This is probably the worst women-in-combat gaffe since Newt Gingrich said women can’t serve in on the front lines because they’d be in trenches. “Females have biological problems staying in a ditch for 30 days because they get infections,” Newt said, “and they don’t have upper body strength.”

It’s one thing to opine on women and have absolutely no idea what the hell you’re talking about, but it’s another to actually be married and be absolutely clueless about women. It’s like some weird Republican learning disorder, where you can’t grasp the obvious examples that are around you every day. To hold onto your prejudices in the face of daily evidence to the contrary can’t say good things about your worldview, since it means your worldview is formed contrary to reality.

My sympathies go out to Newt’s and Rick’s wives, because they’re clearly married to oafs.

I have no words to describe how fucking wrong and stupid these people are. What’s worse is that people even believe this shit and would consider voting for them. My brain is crying, I think I need to lie down.
